The Elmhollow High cross-country team ran away with the Cedar Fork Valley Conference championship on Saturday, its first title since the district reworked the old riverside course a decade ago.
Running on the hilly Fairgrounds loop under a cold, bright sky, the Millers placed three runners in the top five and packed their scoring five within a single minute of one another, a spread coaches said was the difference in the meet.
How the day unfolded
The team went out cautiously on the first mile before pushing hard up the long climb past the orchard fence line, a stretch the squad has practiced on all season. By the final descent the outcome was no longer in doubt.
- Team margin of victory: 22 points over the nearest school
- Millers in the top ten: five of ten places
- Season record on the Fairgrounds loop: undefeated
The team now advances to the regional meet, where a top-four finish would send the squad to the state championship for the first time in program history.
